The advancements in EdTech, especially in AI integration for workforce development and learning, are energizing. Nic Newman’s insightful post and article highlight EdTech’s crucial role in shaping the future of work and training, with Forbes calling skills gaps ‘the biggest threat to a company’s future’.
In a world where technology evolves at Road Runner speed, the importance of continuous learning and development can’t be overstated. At MobieTrain, we advocate for microlearning to equip frontline teams in retail, hospitality, healthcare, and beyond.
AI Robots Won’t Take Your Job
It’s probably the most repeated prognostication of the last years: robots are eventually going to take your job, and probably sooner than you think. As it turns out, that would be the wrong thinking, and by a long shot.
A new Korn Ferry study shows that the biggest issue isn’t that robots are taking all the jobs—it’s that there aren’t enough humans to take them. The study finds that by 2030, there will be a global human talent shortage of more than 85 million people, or roughly equivalent to the population of Germany. In other words: more than 85 million jobs could go unfilled because there aren’t enough skilled people to take them. Crazy, right?
In 2030 that talent shortage could result in about $8.5 trillion in unrealized annual revenues. Governments and organizations must make talent strategy a key priority and take steps now to educate, train, and upskill their existing workforces.
Future-skilling The Workforce as a Main Priority
Since 2015, skill sets for jobs have changed by around 25%. By 2028, employers estimate that 44% of workers’ skills will be disrupted, while an EdX survey last year found that 49% of the skills that exist in their workforce today ‘won’t be relevant in 2025’.
The large majority of companies worldwide (87%) are aware that they either already have skills gaps or expect to within a few years, according to McKinsey, which has reported extensively on the importance of building skills-first organisations. A recent pulse check suggests that employers think this situation is actually getting worse.
It’s no surprise that the L&D’s voice is growing and workers are wanting to reskill, but do not always feel supported by their organization’s skill development opportunities. Of L&D professionals, 64% said that reskilling the current workforce to fill skills gaps is a priority now. According to a recent report, 82% of employees and 62% of HR directors said they believe that workers will need to reskill or upskill at least once a year to maintain a competitive advantage in a global job market.
Why MobieTrain Believes in the Crucial Balance of Human Skills and AI in EdTech
When it comes to skills development and skills assessment, there’s a lot of space that’s ripe for disruption by AI. We believe in the power of AI, but only in the perfect combination with a human touch.
🤖 AI as a Support Tool
Artificial Intelligence tools can analyze vast amounts of data to deliver personalized learning experiences, ensuring employees receive the right training at the right time. AI provides direct 24/7 support with for example chatbots such as Mobie, but it’s the human touch that still ensures these experiences are meaningful and impactful. Technology can guide but it’s the human connection that truly resonates.
💪 Human Skills as a Differentiator
While AI can enhance learning and serve as a support mechanism to make the learning process more efficient and tailored, human skills such as empathy, communication, and problem-solving are irreplaceable for roles in industries like retail, hospitality, and healthcare that require direct interaction with customers and patients.
🏫 Lifelong Learning as a Certainty
The future of work demands agility and adaptability. AI facilitates continuous learning by identifying skill gaps and recommending relevant training content. Our MobieTrain solution is designed to foster a culture of non-stop learning, ensuring that employees are always ready to meet new challenges and seize new opportunities.
🧑🏫 EdTech as an Equalizer
EdTech has the potential to democratize education, providing access to high-quality learning resources to anyone, anywhere. This aligns perfectly with MobieTrain’s mission to make learning accessible and engaging for all frontline employees.
At MobieTrain, we are committed to leverage the best of AI while keeping the human touch at the core of our solutions. The future of EdTech is not just about technology; it’s about empowering people to reach their full potential, making them learn, communicate and perform better than ever.
